About Our Club

Our History

  •

The story of our club started in 1960 when as Panania Wanderers we entered

four team wearing our maroon and white colours in the Parramatta/Granville

Women’s Basket Ball Association. In 1961 Panania Wanderers and four other

clubs formed the Bankstown and District Women’s Basket Ball Association and

our first competition game was played at DeveralL Park, May 27th 1961.

In 1964 we were approached by the East Hills and District Workers Club to

play under their name and sponsorship. This we were glad to do because

their aim of promoting sport and recreation for the young people of the

district was ideally suited to our established philosophy. Our emphasis has

always been on the pleasure of participation for all players. The subsidy

meant that every player would receive a trophy in appreciation of their

sportsmanship and participation. It also enabled us to make it easier for

families who may otherwise not have been able to afford it to play our sport.

Since that date the netball club has been an integral part of the Workers club

and in 1966 the original Panania Wanderers became Revesby Workers’ Basket

Ball Club and when in 1976 the sport of girls basket ball changed it’s name to

netball and the Revesby Workers’ Netball Club came into being. Our original

foundation members were J. Hancock, E. Newell, J. Warham, S. Watson, J.

Laurie, P. Beaton, M. Cummerford, D. Yuille, J. Seaton and M. Costello.

Revesby Workers’ Netball Club has a most impressive record. Commencing

with four teams and twenty members - 60+ years later we can now boast

teams from 5yrs to seniors as well as umpires, coaches, and managers.

Over the years our Club has produced many talented players, umpires, and

coaches at all levels of the game. We have won numerous premierships and

awards, too many to list here.

Many worthy members have been honored with life membership for

their dedicated service. They are:- Chris Byng (decd.), Pam Constable, Adele

Clarke (decd.), John Cook (decd.), Kath Cook (decd.), Janet Dawes, Margaret

Dawson, Phyllis Johnstone, Lynette Kovalik, Dulcie Langan, Kellie

McFarlane, Kristy Montgomery, Doreen Polley (decd.), Pat Pride, Michele Robinson, Doreen Sirett, Norma Smith,O.A.M. (decd.), Joyce Warham (decd.), & Tracey Zanoni.

Our Netball club has a proud history and in 2021 we celebrated 60 years as a

participant in the sport of netball.

Our original philosophy still stands today in that, our Club is here to promote the game of netball in our community and that anyone in our community regardless of their ability is given a chance to participate and enjoy.
